On 5 November, ENTSO-E submitted its response to the European Commission’s consultation on the Strategic Roadmap for Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence in Energy, which is expected to be presented in Q2 2026.
European transmission system operators emphasise that the energy transition is impossible without a reliable “digital backbone” — a real-time data exchange network and the secure use of AI across all system operations.
ENTSO-E outlined eight key priorities, including:
- building a common European energy data space;
- developing federated digital twins for system operation and resilience;
- ensuring the secure and trustworthy deployment of AI in energy operations;
- investing in skills and training programmes for system operators;
- creating a harmonised legislative framework for digitalisation;
- launching a CERN-level initiative for joint development of AI energy system models.
Together, these steps aim to form the foundation of Europe’s future digital energy system — secure, efficient, and climate-neutral.
