On 31 October 2025, G7 energy and environment ministers meeting in Toronto approved the G7 Work Plan on Energy and Artificial Intelligence — a document that sets out a unified approach of the world’s leading economies to managing energy demand, developing modern infrastructure, and ensuring the safe deployment of AI in the energy sector.
G7 countries acknowledge that:
- the rapid growth of AI-related energy consumption requires investment in grid technologies, energy storage and flexible demand management;
- data centres must be powered by reliable, affordable and environmentally sustainable energy;
- AI should enhance the efficiency of energy systems — not create additional risks.
Key pillars of the Work Plan:
- development of energy infrastructure for data centres and AI models;
- using AI for innovation in energy systems and materials;
- building skills and a workforce prepared for the digital energy era;
- sharing best practices among governments, research institutions and industry;
- strengthening cyber-protection of energy infrastructure.
G7 emphasises that energy and artificial intelligence form a strategic partnership of the 21st century, serving people, energy security and sustainable development.
Ukraine — along with Australia and the Republic of Korea — supported and joined the G7 Work Plan.
