In today’s challenging context, the role of media in covering Ukraine’s energy transformation, power system stability, and integration into the European energy space is of strategic importance.
Thanks to the efforts of professional journalists and editorial teams, society, businesses, and international partners gain:
— Reliable information about developments in the energy sector
— Clear explanations of complex regulatory processes
— Coverage of real-life cases of energy recovery and development
We deeply respect the work of journalists who continue to operate under the difficult conditions of war.
We propose launching an annual initiative to publicly recognise the role of media in Ukraine’s energy sector. This initiative could include:
- Presenting special awards or acknowledgements to journalists and media outlets for their consistent coverage of energy-related topics.
- Publicly honouring the memory of journalists who lost their lives in the line of duty.
- Establishing a scholarship or support programme for young journalists interested in pursuing careers in energy journalism.
The initiative format may involve:
— A dedicated panel or award ceremony as part of industry forums
— A special competition for journalistic works focused on the development of a transparent Ukrainian energy market
— Partnerships with trade unions, journalist associations, and international stakeholders
The Energy Union is ready to contribute to shaping the concept, coordinating with relevant associations, and forming an expert jury (but even without us — the idea itself matters most).
We believe this initiative could become a meaningful step toward:
— Building a culture of energy transparency in Ukraine
— Recognising journalists as partners in energy market development
— Honouring and remembering those who gave their lives for truth and freedom of speech
